What are the different types of neuroplasticity?

< 1 min read

The two major types of neuroplasticity are synaptic neuroplasticity and non-synaptic neuroplasticity:

Synaptic Neuroplasticity: This refers to the brain’s ability to strengthen or weaken synapses, the connections between neurons, based on activity levels. It’s primarily involved in learning and memory formation.

Non-Synaptic Neuroplasticity: This involves changes in the function or structure of the brain that are not directly related to synapses, such as alterations in the properties of neurons or changes in the overall architecture of neural networks.

Neuroplasticity is an inclusive term used to define the ability of the brain to rewire itself depending on the different experiences in the environment, either internally or externally.
