When Survival Mode Continues After the Danger Has Passed

Trauma and prolonged stress can teach the nervous system to remain alert, even when you are no longer in immediate danger.

You might experience this as anxiety, hypervigilance, shutdown, avoidance, difficulty relaxing, or feeling disconnected from your body. You may understand logically that you are safe while your body continues to react as though something is wrong.

These responses are not signs of weakness or personal failure. They may be protective patterns your nervous system learned in an effort to keep you safe.

In this free, trauma-informed webinar, somatic practitioners Natalie Rivans and Nicole Larson will explore how these patterns develop, and how somatic practices and neuroplasticity can help us begin creating new responses, gently and gradually.
